- Blaine County Hunger Coalition
Donations: 121 Honey Suckle St., Bellevue,
ID, 83313; info@thehungercoalition.org
Contact: (208) 788-0121
I founded the Hunger Coalition
in July 2003 and remain active as
an honorary board member. We received our 501(c)3 tax exempt status
in December 2004. Our mission is to manage a coordinated effort to
end hunger in Blaine County by acquiring and distributing food through
a network of social service agencies, grocery stores, businesses,
and volunteers working to supply healthful food to those in need.
Our mission also includes working to improve the lives of those in need by helping them transition from dependency to self-sufficiency through self-development by connecting them with the food they need and the services available locally to help them achieve long-term economic security.
Initiatives: Food vouchers, food boxes, pick-up and delivery service, awareness advertising, collecting and publishing hunger statistics, distributing bi-lingual outreach material, and year-round food collection at grocery stores. We also operate a 1,500 square-foot food bank. Future plans include providing after school snack programs for low income children, and spearheading a network of social service agencies, educators, and community leaders dedicated to addressing the structural causes of hunger—poverty, education, employment, and housing.
